College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (2024)

Picks for every game in the SEC and where they finish.

Brad Crawford

SEC football is back and College Football Playoff expansionbrings several teams to the top of the national championship conversation. Game-by-game predictions for every team are updated now that two-deeps are established and training camp scrimmages are over.

Welcoming Texas and Oklahoma to the group of contenders means two additional powerhouses are now faces of a league that saw its lengthy reign atop college football end last season at the hands of Michigan. But coming off impressive finishes in recruiting and the notable hire of Kalen DeBoer at Alabama following Nick Saban's retirement, the elite-tier of the SEC might be even stronger in 2024.

Here are game-by-game predictions for every SEC team and the league's projected order of finish:

Vanderbilt Commodores

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (2)

Projected record: 3-9, 0-8

Wins: Alcorn State, Georgia State, Ball State

Losses: Virginia Tech, Missouri, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, Auburn, South Carolina, LSU, Tennessee

Unless Clark Lea's offseason coaching staff changes and roster overhaul produces more than we're expecting, the Commodores could be heading toward another winless season in the SEC. Perhaps the opener against Virginia Tech could be a momentum-booster of sorts if Vanderbilt can beat the Hokies. There are not many circled wins the rest of the way.

MIssissippi State Bulldogs

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (3)

Projected record: 4-8, 0-8

Wins: Arizona State, Eastern Kentucky, Toledo, UMass

Losses: Florida, Texas, Georgia, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Ole Miss

Here's another program in danger of a winless SEC season unless the Bulldogs win the toss-up tilt with Arkansas. The other seven contests against league opponents are not favorable and there's a major talent differential in each. First-year coach Jeff Lebby has time to fix what's broken in Starkville, but it's not going to happen in 2024.

Arkansas Razorbacks

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (4)

Projected record: 4-8, 1-7

Wins: UAPB, UAB, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech

Losses: Oklahoma State, Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Missouri

Unless Bobby Petrino is a program savior and every new piece from the transfer portal is impactful, it's hard to foresee Arkansas getting to bowl eligibility given the schedule. The Razorbacks have to post multiple wins over ranked opponents to do so, something they accomplished twice under Sam Pittman (2021, 2022).

Kentucky Wildcats

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (5)

Projected record: 7-5, 3-5

Wins: Southern Miss, South Carolina, Ohio, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Murray State, Louisville

Losses: Georgia, Ole Miss, Florida, Tennessee, Texas

Kentucky isn't going to out-athlete most of its SEC opponents, but the Wildcats should to take advantage of teams at home with their strength and power at the line of scrimmage. If Mark Stoopsgets to eight regular-season wins with this team, it's another feather in his cap. Kentucky reached bowl eligibility eight consecutive years under his watch, a program record.

South Carolina Gameco*cks

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (6)

Projected record: 6-6, 2-6

Wins: Old Dominion, LSU, Akron, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Wofford

Losses: Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama, Oklahoma, Missouri, Clemson

Coach Shane Beamer and South Carolina face achallenging schedule in the SEC as the Gameco*cks try and buck preseason projections and get back to bowl eligibility for the third time in four seasons. There is no Florida, Georgia or Tennessee on the schedule. That's going to take some getting used to in the expanded SEC. League newcomer Oklahoma does appear, which marks the first matchup in program history with the Sooners, along with a rare trip to Alabama and a home showdown with LSU.

Oklahoma Sooners

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (7)

Projected record:7-5, 3-5

Wins: Temple, Houston, Tulane,Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina, Maine

Losses: Auburn, Texas, Ole Miss, Alabama, LSU

Could Oklahoma be college football's best seven-win team this season? If the schedule shakes out the way we're expecting, the answer is a resounding yes. The offensive line is brand-new for the Sooners and first-year starting quarterback Jackson Arnold will help usher in the SEC expansion era with his arm. The non-conference portion of Oklahoma's schedule should be manageable, but there are several SEC road games that are worrisome.

Auburn Tigers

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (8)

Projected record: 8-4, 4-4

Wins: Alabama A&M, Cal, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, ULM, Texas A&M

Losses: Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, Alabama

Eight wins for Hugh Freeze after last season's unexpected lackluster performance would be a great sign. Much of Auburn's success hinges on production at the wide receiver spot, which begins with quarterback Payton Thorne moving the needle. The front seven defensively should be a team strength andthe Tigers' ability to protect home field is something to keep an eye on.

Texas A&M Aggies

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (9)

Projected record:9-3, 5-3

Wins: Notre Dame, McNeese, Bowling Green, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi State, LSU, New Mexico State, Texas

Losses: Florida, South Carolina, Auburn

The Mike Elko era open should open with a bang against Notre Dame, but soon thereafter the Aggies come back down to reality. The one game most are pointing to on this schedule is the finale in College Station against Texas. That one should be a lot of fun in the Lonestar State.

Florida Gators

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (10)

Projected record:7-5, 5-3(tie for5th)

Wins: Samford, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, UCF, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss

Losses: Miami, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Florida State

Many already buried Billy Napier because of the all-time treacherous schedule, but that's motivation for a team with plenty of talent that's itching to prove naysayers wrong. The first couple games are vital toward getting to bowl eligibility and ultimately, surpassing outside expectations. The final few games come against playoff contenders, so piling up wins before the second-half of the season is paramount at Florida.

Missouri Tigers

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (11)

Projected record: 9-3, 5-3(tie for5th)

Wins: Murray State, Buffalo, Boston College, Vanderbilt, UMass, Auburn, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Arkansas

Losses: Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma

Missouri opened a ton of eyes nationally last season with 11 wins including a bowl victory over Ohio State, but repeating that level of success could be a challenge. The schedule sets up for it, though. With only three games against teams ranked inside the preseason AP Poll, only getting two of those would mean double-digit victories once more for the Tigers.

LSU Tigers

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (12)

Projected record: 9-3, 5-3(tie for5th)

Wins: USC, Nicholls, UCLA, South Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma

Losses: South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama

After consecutive 10-win seasons at LSU, Brian Kelly hopes to find that number (and then some) in 2024. With a new staff defensively and a couple pieces on the other side of the football that will need to step up in a big way, the Tigers are certainly one of the SEC's playoff hopefuls.Project that November showdown with Alabama as a playoff eliminator for the loser.

Tennessee Volunteers

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (13)

Projected record: 9-3,5-3(tie for 5th)

Wins: Chattanooga, NC State, Kent State, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, UTEP, Vanderbilt

Losses: Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia

Don't overlook Tennessee in the College Football Playoff picture. The Vols are one of several teams capable of 10 regular-season wins, which is the magic number to get into the conversation given this schedule. September is vital in that regard with nationally-ranked matchups against NC State and Oklahoma. If Tennessee can win those games, all of this program's season-long goals will be within reach. Another home win over Alabama at Neyland Stadium would be this season's top victory.

Alabama Crimson Tide

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (14)

Projected record: 10-2, 6-2 (tie for 2nd)

Wins: WKU, USF, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Missouri, LSU, Mercer, Oklahoma, Auburn

Losses: Georgia, Tennessee

Kalen DeBoer has hit work cut out for him with the Crimson Tide given this wealthy schedule packed with elite competition. There's not going to be a team in the country with a better 10-win resume than Alabama if this is how it unfolds this fall. The Crimson Tide face five opponents inside the preseason top 20 and a road game at Wisconsin that would be quite the non-conference separator against other teams in the at-large playoff mix.

Texas Longhorns

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (15)

Projected record: 10-2, 6-2(tie for 2nd)

Wins: Colorado State, Michigan, UTSA, ULM, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky

Losses: Georgia, Texas A&M

This prediction changed since the spring, due in large part to injuries at running back and the belief that maybe there's just a bit too much hype around the Longhorns. Picked to finish in the elite tier with Georgia at SEC Media Days, Texas should be able to handle the week to week grind that is the SEC thanks to a star-studded roster offensively and considerable bulk at the line of scrimmage. The finale at Texas A&M could determine whether or not the Longhorns reach the SEC Championship.

Ole Miss Rebels

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (16)

Projected record: 10-2, 6-2 (SEC Championship appearance)

Wins: Furman, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State

Losses: LSU, Florida

The first of four SEC teams expected to reach the expanded College Football Playoff this fall with 10 or more wins, Ole Miss should get there with an enhanced roster under Lane Kiffin. A 6-2 finish in conference play could create a logjam of tiebreaking scenarios at the top of the conference. And if the Rebels have a home win over preseason No. 1 Georgia, that's going to come in handy.

Georgia Bulldogs

College football predictions: Every SEC team's final record in 2024 (17)

Projected record: 11-1, 7-1 (SEC Championship appearance)

Wins: Clemson, Tennessee Tech, Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, UMass, Georgia Tech

Losses: Ole Miss

No program in the country plays as difficult a road schedule as Georgia. The Bulldogs won 39 consecutive regular-season games, but thatpotentially ends against Alabama, Texas or Ole Miss. Regardless, 11 regular-season wins will be more than enough to get back to the playoff for the Bulldogs and should stamp another berth in the SEC title game, too.
