Realistic guns look just like real guns and are super cool for pretend play. They’re awesome because they make playtime more exciting and active. But there are some problems with them like kids might mix them up with real guns, and they might not know that real guns are hazardous.

My 16-year-old son wanted to buy real-looking toy guns recently, but I had reservations because I thought they might not be a good choice for a young kid. I was concerned that these toy guns, which look very real, could be mistaken for actual weapons. To get some advice, I talked to my brother, who’s a big fan of realistic toy guns and has quite a collection himself.

After analyzing numerous guns, I have concluded that there are specific realistic toy guns that are suitable for kids and teenagers, while others should only be used by adults. I have provided a detailed explanation for the categorization of these guns based on their appearance and specifications, clarifying why some are appropriate for teens and others exclusively for adults.

After doing good research me and my brother ordered these realistic toy guns, and I’m going to provide a detailed explanation of each one and share our findings with you.

Realistic Guns For Adults

1. DPMS Full Auto SBR CO2 – Powered BB Air Rifle

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (4)

We’ve had this rifle for about 2 weeks, and after reading many reviews and spending quite a bit of time with it, I’ve got some observations and recommendations:

Build Quality and Sights: The rifle feels very real in your hands, but the flip-up sights it comes with aren’t great. They don’t match the overall quality of the rifle. It would be nice if Crossman included better flip-up iron sights. I replaced them with a cheap red/green dot scope, which made a big difference.

Training with Real AR: This rifle is excellent for training and getting familiar with real AR. All the controls are quite close to the real thing, except for the forward assist, which isn’t used much anyway. The trigger is a bit stiff and behaves like a 2-stage trigger. Around 90% of the trigger force, there’s a faint click, and then it fires. It’s consistent, and I like it.

Accuracy and Co2 Efficiency: At 30 feet, with fresh Co2, I’m grouping 25 rounds within an inch in semi-auto (using a rest). It maintains elevation well for the first 6 mags but drops 2-3 inches at 30 feet on the last (7th) mag. When Co2 gets low, the rifle can occasionally double fire or dry fire. By the time Co2 gets low, it’s time to replace it, and you’ll need to use the charge lever between shots.

To extend the rifle’s life, it’s best not to run full auto with fresh Co2 or near-empty cylinders. Shoot the first mag in semi-auto, switch to full auto for a couple of mags, and then back to semi-auto until the Co2 is depleted. This is a good practice as moving parts need some wear-in.

BBs and Speed Loader: We initially used Hornady Black Diamond BBs for the first 1500 rounds because they’re easier to load. The speed loader takes some getting used to, but it works well. I sprayed a little Rem oil in the loader, loaded it between half and three-quarters full, and then another quick spray of oil. This worked nicely. I switched to Daisy zinc-coated BBs since I ran out of Hornady’s, and they worked well too.

If the speed loader plunger jams, don’t force it. Flip it upside down (while still connected to the mag) and gently work the plunger until it un-jams, then flip it back upright and continue.

Co2 Handling: At first, it didn’t seem to shoot more than about 75-100 rounds before running out of Co2 (semi-auto only). When removing the right (secondary) cylinder, a lot of CO2 escaped. I inspected the piercing pin, and it looked fine. Next time, I removed the Co2 cylinders slowly, and after about a quarter-turn, the right cylinder got cold but wasn’t leaking.

I was then able to fire another 75 or so rounds. The next time I loaded two new cylinders, I tightened the left one normally. On the right one, I tightened it as much as I could with the supplied wrench and then backed it off exactly 1/4 turn. This worked well. It seems there’s something odd inside the magazine that makes the right cylinder not flow if the cylinder is screwed on very tight, but this workaround seems to be working.

Maintenance: The manual suggests oiling after about 1000 rounds, and that’s what I did. Maybe Crossman wants the parts to wear in before oiling. I applied Pell gun oil to the Co2 tips and everything else that moves, including the seal. It felt significantly smoother after oiling. I’ve heard Pell gun oil is a non-detergent ATF (automatic transmission fluid).

After a bit more research, it looks like silicone oil should be used on the green seal, in the cylinder where the green seal slides into, and on the seal at the output of the magazine. I’ll be switching over to silicone oil for these parts, while still using pelgunoil for the tips of Co2 cylinders.

In my opinion, this rifle is a great value. We’ve had a lot of fun with it and I feel like I’m improving my target acquisition time and muscle memory.

2. Crosman SNR357 Snub Nose .177-Caliber Pellet / BB CO2-Powered Revolver

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (5)

This BB revolver is the best you can get. It has a substantial weight, giving it a real gun feel. Loading it feels very true to life, and there’s nothing to complain about. It’s the most enjoyable replica you can find. Don’t pay too much attention to others who mention issues with the safety, grip, or wiggling hammer because there are no problems. Every gun of this type is pretty much the same.

The safety is never stuck; you just need to push it firmly to take it off safety. The grip is perfectly fine, as long as you don’t handle it roughly like some people do. The hammer is made of solid metal, and there’s nothing to worry about. It might have a tiny bit of play in it, but that’s nothing to be concerned about. Everything is just fine with this gun.

When you cock it back, it’s strong and ready to shoot. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves revolvers and real-looking guns. You won’t be disappointed.

3.Umarex Glock 19 Gen3 .177 Caliber BB Gun Air Pistol

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (6)

This pistol has a real gun look. It’s important to be cautious when carrying it around, as it can be mistaken for the real thing. The build quality feels solid, and it has some weight to it. The grip is comfortable and fits my hand almost perfectly.

I am incredibly impressed and happy with the quality, feel, weight, and appearance of this equipment. Additionally, the designer made a smart choice by sacrificing some blowback action for a substantial increase in BB speed (FPS).

I think the excitement of blowback action might fade over time. I’m not sure if the pistol has a rifle barrel or a mechanism to make the BB rise a bit as it travels toward the target, but whatever it is, this gun is remarkably accurate.

My brother is even considering buying several Gen3-17 models just to keep them in pristine condition as part of his collection. This gun should receive numerous awards for being one of the best among fake guns.

Realistic Guns For Teens and Kids

4. SOFITEN Toy Foam Blaster Automatic Sniper Rifle

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (7)

It looks nice. I thought about painting it to make it look like metal, but I like how it looks now. I wish it was sturdier, but it’s good for cosplay or kids playing. The flashlight is very bright, and the laser works well. If you want something more serious and one of the best fake guns, consider real heavy metal airsoft guns. This one is great for cosplay at parties, Halloween, Christmas, or comic conventions, and it’s budget-friendly.

Awesome Gift for Kids: The SOFITEN Toy Foam Blaster is super fun for kids and gives them a break from screens. It’s a great gift for birthdays, Halloween, and Christmas.

Battery-Powered Fun: This toy gun is automatic and comes with rechargeable batteries and a charging cable. It feels like the real thing.

Safe Foam Bullets: It’s safe for kids 8 and up. The soft foam bullets won’t hurt them.

Extra Accessories: The package includes cool extras like a flashlight, sights

5. Toy Gun Soft Bullet Educational Model

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (8)

The Good:

  • It’s made well.
  • You get 40 darts and 10 ejecting cases.
  • It’s one of the coolest toy gun inventions I’ve ever seen.
  • It works like in the movies – when you reload, empty shells pop out.
  • You don’t have to load darts individually; you can load empty cases and shoot blanks.
  • The box calls it an “educational model,” which is kind of funny.

Tips for Loading Properly:

  • Don’t load the cases when the chamber is open. Close it first.
  • After you open the chamber, bend it down until it clicks, then load the cases.
  • Only after you hear the click, load the cases, and then you can close the chamber and start shooting.

The Bad:

  • You can’t do cool one-handed actions like in the movies. It’s a two-handed job.
  • Trying to do it one-handed is hard and might break the gun.
  • Overall, it’s a 4-star toy.

6. IZOKEE Combination Soft Bullet Toys

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (9)

The package includes one soft bullet toy, 40 shells, 80 soft foam bullets, and three magazines. This means there’s plenty of fun to be had with this exciting toy. Safety is a priority. The soft bullets used in this toy are safe for children aged 8 and above.

They have been tested and certified by ASTM and CPSIA third-party labs. These soft foam bullets are made from high-quality EVA material, ensuring they won’t harm kids while they enjoy safe play.

This product is cool and looks realistic, though it’s much lighter. The design is nice and it’s fun to use. Loading pellets into the cartridges and how they eject from the chamber is neat, but there are a few small issues I noticed:

  1. The foam pellets that go into the cartridges are tiny, like spitballs, so they’re easy to lose.
  2. Speaking of spitballs, you can shoot them harder and farther than the pellets from this product.
  3. Because the pellets are so small, they’re easy to misplace. Adults might manage, but kids will likely lose them, so you’ll need to buy more.

So, if you want something cool to play with without expecting intense battles like top foam blaster brands, and some good guns in your collection, this is one of them. But if you want something as powerful as those brands with more realism, this might not be the best choice.

7. Minfex Automatic Toy Gun Sniper With Scope

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (10)

This is a modified gun with different firing modes: semi-auto, 3-dart burst, and full auto. The full-auto mode isn’t very fast, with a velocity ranging from the high 40s to mid-60s feet per second (FPS).

The blaster’s shell is sturdy, but there’s some creaking in the grip and a weak jam door. The rails on the sides of the blaster match its color, not black. There’s a mix of rail types, so be careful if you want to use your attachments.

The rails on the barrel attachment don’t line up with the blaster’s side rails because of the uneven shell design.

The distance between the flash hider and the triangular iron sight is about 1.5 inches, which is shorter than you might expect.

The stock is fixed and not adjustable or collapsible, but it’s solid with no wobbling. It might be a bit tight to attach or detach, so try pressing down the two locking tabs while moving the attachment point to make it easier.

The scope is made of lightweight plastic and can magnify a bit. The removable crosshair sight on top reveals a hole leading into the main scope when taken off.

The bi-pod is one of the best accessories in this set. It’s well-built with sturdy springs to keep the legs in place, whether they’re up or down. There are tabs near the feet that, when pressed, release a catch, and the spring-loaded feet can extend farther. To retract the feet and legs, press and hold those tabs.

The magazines work with various blasters and are fairly robust. They’re cloudy and translucent black. You also get 100 darts with standard tips and suction cups.

The battery is an 18650 with wires connected at the ends and wrapped in rubber or plastic. The charger cord is a basic USB with a connector, but it doesn’t show charging status. The power of 1x 18650 is similar to about 3 AAAs, which might explain why it feels slightly underpowered.

8. MINOSNEO Real Looking AK Toy Gun

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (11)

It might feel a bit flimsy, but it does its job pretty well. It’s accurate and powerful, but not always completely reliable. The best part is that it looks cool. Surprisingly, it can be used both as an electric and a manual blaster, which I didn’t expect when I got it – that’s pretty awesome.

So far, it’s holding up, but the spring mode stopped working after a day. It’s not very accurate with the included ammo, and the grip wobbles a bit. However, it serves its purpose as a realistic replica blaster and performs reasonably well.

The grip tape is like a camo bandage, which is versatile, and the small gel holder can hold 2-3 mags worth of ammo. The magazine can hold around 150-250 gel balls, depending on how you load it. The gel balls only take about an hour to become usable, but waiting longer improves their performance. It even comes with an unadvertised sling, which is a nice bonus.

The sight works, but I couldn’t find a reticle. Assembling the blaster is quick and easy, although there was a minor issue with the battery.

In the package, you’ll find the blaster, a rechargeable battery, a charging cable, a magazine, 20,000 gel water beads, sights, a grip, safety goggles, and a scope.

9. Tovol Zerky Double Barrel Toy Foam Blaster

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (12)
  • It can shoot up to 30 feet (around 9 meters).
  • The blaster’s size is 17 inches long, 4.75 inches tall, and 2 inches wide, and it weighs 12.5 ounces.
  • It’s made of ABS plastic with a smooth coating for a good feel.

This blaster has cool features like real shell ejection and double barrels, and you can fire a dart from each barrel one at a time or both at once. Plus, it’s just the right size to hold with one hand.

It’s meant for kids 8 years old and up and makes an awesome gift for boys and girls who enjoy playing with foam blasters.

In the package, you get a foam dart blaster, 12 cartridges or shells, 30 foam darts, and a scope.

10. SPYRA – SpyraThree Water Blaster

Top 10 Realistic Guns-Realistic Toy Guns For Adults & Kids (13)

The SpyraThree has a special feature as compared to other guns. You can dip it in water, and it fills up in just 10 seconds. It also has a display that shows you how much water is left, the battery, and how many shots you have.

You can use it freely and have fun in the summer. Just pull the trigger, and it shoots water. Now, go out and have a great time.

If you’re excited, you can shoot three super-fast, powerful water shots one after the other. But be careful, your water will run out quickly.

With a full tank, you can shoot 22 strong water shots at your friends. These shots are more accurate and powerful than regular water guns.
